Today I witnessed the sweetest thing.
I was on my way to speak at a gathering of area realtors and as I approached the TJ Maxx strip mall on 13th, I saw a car pulled over on the right and vehicles in front of me maneuvering oddly. When I got to where the car was I could see that there was a young couple in the street trying to safely cross a mother duck and her brood from the median to the safety of the curb. There was no way I was going to maneuver around this effort. I stopped, and thankfully, so did the vehicle next to me. There was the guy with Canadian plates in a big truck who got exasperated and tried to hurriedly pull around me (there was much cussing going on in my car when this occurred), fortunately, he had the presence of mind to stop before he hit the young couple or the mama and her babies.
I must say, I was so touched by this young couple’s efforts. They put themselves in harm’s way to save creatures. Not to mention that they had a very effective herding technique. It made me think this was not their first intervention.
I was also happy that folks stopped and waited (some less patiently than others, but they all waited). I wanted to shout out thank you to the couple once they had ushered the mama and her babies to the curb, but they were so focused on their task and folks behind me were becoming impatient, so I headed on to where I was going. Hence, I am left to say it here – to the couple who braved lunch time traffic on 13th today to save the mama and her babies – YOU ROCK!!!! You did a good thing today and I applaud you. 😉

Ms. C
What a treat, Ms. C. A life affirming moment, like the time I looked up from picking up my dog’s poop and came literally nose to nose with a huge Great Dane named Moses. He coulda ripped my face off, I could not have moved fast enough. “Hi, MOse,” I said, eye to eye. I didn’t know whether to move away slow or fast or wait for him to move. We just stared at each other. Then he licked me and moved on.
And now that I repeat this story, I have no idea how it relates to the duck family. Except they were cool God moments.
He’s a story up your alley, I think.
