Paula Overby from Eagan, Minnesota is running for Congress.
Paula believes she is the first openly transgendered person from Minnesota to do so. Paula was born a man but identifies as a woman. She will now, at the age of 59, jump into the fray of politics having never held any office before. You know – it takes an awful lot of courage to take up a challenge like that later in life, especially when you know that there are folks who will dislike you for no other reason than your gender identity. But to Paula Overby I say – “You go girl!!!”
Here is what we already know about Paula – she’s tough and not intimidated easily. The ability to live one’s truth in a society that is not always tolerant or accepting takes courage and strength. I think Congress needs folks like Paula.
I don’t live in Paula’s district and therefore cannot vote for her, but I am endorsing her. Even though she has no experience in politics, I think she has the backbone necessary to do the right thing for the folks in her district. And let’s face it – we need more people like that in Congress.
Day one thousand four hundred and ninety-six of the new forty – obla di obla da

Hmm. Transgendering without surgery is just cross-dressing. The dissonance he must suffer if her body parts do not match who he believes she is. I don’t think we need any more deeply confused Congress members. But I can’t NOT VOTE for her, so he’s all yours, North Dakota.

“Gender issues “ have been a fascination for me ever since I read Conundrum by James/Jan Morris many years ago, so I like to stay current with the latest research data on the subject. Because of that extensive research, there is now a whole new body of terminology. “Cross-dressing” now refers to just one kind of “Gender-expression” and is largely a matter of ‘theatrics’ (or simply the fun factor). A more profound form of Gender-expression involves what we might call the “Gender soul” where one’s total being is mismatched with the anatomy (built like a boy, think like a girl or vice versa). In those instances, surgery may or may not be done, for whatever reason (one reason being the cost factor).
The Gender Spectrum is broad and those who appear to be “extreme” do tend to be tough because they have had to be tough to survive. They also tend to be caring and (com)passionate since they can identify with the emotional suffering of people in general. Gender issues are an opportunity for all of us to learn more about so many things Human.

P.S. I feel very little connection to extreme Girly-Girls and Macho-Men, but that’s just me. 😀

I hear you, B. MY point is that from a practical and legal standpoint, if you have a man’s body parts, you are a man, regardless of your feelings.

Thank you Ms C
The difference between men and women is quite conspicuous here. Women talk about strength and courage; men define women by their parts, noting that if a Transgender woman has corrective surgery than she would have what a man expects from a woman. This is the politics of prejudice and most people would not even notice it. Making fun of a transgender woman seems perfectly natural. Clearly they don’t know much about the law either.
Learn to soar Ms C. Men dominate our world but women have the power to change the world.
