The best things in life…well, they aren’t things at all.

It is said that the best things in life aren’t things.  Of course we know that is true, but oh how we love our things.   I believe one of the best things in life are the moments we share with others.  That isn’t all that profound – you probably already knew that.  I do think we lose track of that on occasion though…I think we find ourselves sucked into a world full of bright, shiny, and exciting things and think they will make us happy or more fulfilled.

Don’t get me wrong – things are nice and they have their place, but things are hollow replacements for cherished moments that we hold dear.  I wish day-to-day life was less about things and more about the best things.  It seems to me, that those folks who not only understand this but also actively live this in principle – are the richest folks of all.

Today, my grandbaby Lennon was over.   He played in a small $7 pool with a little bit of water and my measuring cups.  He had a blast.  Mike and I likewise had a blast spending time with him and watching him have fun.  There is no thing that you could give me that I would trade for that experience.

I am rich not because of my possessions but because of the moments I have had an opportunity to share with my friends and family.  They really are the best things in life.  And note, they aren’t things at all. 😉

  1. Amen! I would add a couple “things” that are almost as precious as those simple but very special moments: A good camera and the technical equipment that enables us to share those moments. Happiness shared is happiness squared. 🙂
