I don’t know exactly when the interest in the Super Bowl advertisements eclipsed the actual football game, but for a good decade or so Super Bowl ads have become a much fiercer competition than the big boys on the field. The money spent on these ads – both in production and air time costs – can rival the budgets of Indie films. Big name actors, sports icons, and directors are brought in to ensure that the ads leave a lasting impression in the seconds allotted to them.
Each year there are some stand-outs in the mix, but this year there was one that rose so far above the rest that I simply must share it here. That advertisement was the Dodge Ram homage to farmers. The Ram ad features Paul Harvey’s voice delivering a powerful statement of the hard work, dedication, heart, and value of farmers. It is a powerful message in places like North Dakota – places where family farming is deeply ingrained in so many families’ DNA.
Watch the advertisement here. I am not sure how many folks are going to be more likely to buy a Ram truck after having watched the ad, but I must give credit where it is due – damn good advertisement Dodge. My 49ers couldn’t pull off the win, but you did. Thank you for declaring 2013 the Year of the Farmer. I cannot imagine being in the market for a truck, but if I am – Dodge now has a boot up. 😉
Day one thousand three hundred and eight of the new forty – obla di obla da

That ad is pure class in every way. Whoever thought of using Paul Harvey’s voice is a genius.
