Let’s play a word association game. I’ll give you a word and you tell me the first word or image that pops into your mind. Remember, the first word or image that pops into your mind – don’t ponder, don’t reflect.
Okay…are you ready? Here’s the word:
Nana.
What was the first word or image you came up with? Here’s the image that
springs into my mind. A plump, happy, kindly granny with a bun. That is what the word Nana conjures up for me.
Now, to all you Nanas out there who are taking offense – don’t write me. I am not saying you look like this, I am just saying that this is the image that immediately comes to my mind when I hear the word Nana.
Mike thinks I should embrace being a Nana and let go of my preferred label of Glamma. Uhhh…no. I cannot be a Nana. Cannot, cannot, cannot!!! I don’t identify with that image and I don’t want to either (again, all due respect to Nanas everywhere – my goal is not to insult you or your aprons).
So you can call me many things world, but Nana isn’t one of them. I will stick with Glamma and the image association that goes with that – which is the image I see every morning in the mirror. I can live with that. 😉
Day one thousand and sixty-seven of the new forty – obla di obla da
