I want to believe that I will age like Sophia Loren has aged – like a fine wine that truly improves with age. Increasingly though I believe I am destined to go the route of Maxine – who compared to Sophia is moldy grape juice. Not that the two women are completely different – they both have a bit of spunkiness in them and they both speak their minds freely. But that is about it. Sophia is striking and poised and Maxine…well, she’s poised to strike you if you annoy her.
I think there is some pleasure in being a Maxine and saying whatever you think without apology. Alas, there is probably more pleasure in looking and being received by others like Sophia Loren. I wish I had a good start on that Sophia Loren look – I guess to age well as a bombshell one needs to start as a bombshell. Darn it – being a Sophia is apparently going to be an uphill climb. Perhaps it is time to start embracing my inner Maxine.

Hmmm…I may need to work my way up to Maxine status. Perhaps in the interim I can find some middle-ground – perhaps I can be more like Susan Sarandon or Jane Fonda or Cybill Shepherd…or maybe I’ll just have to settle for being me for awhile longer. Hopefully, when it is all said and done I’ll resemble wine more than grape juice. 😉

You are, in the truest historical sense, good wine.
