The $64,000 Question

I purchased a new magnet for my fridge when I went to Zozo (my favorite airport store) as I traveled home from Maryland the week before last.  It asked a very important question and one I would very much like an answer to as I prepare to venture back out to Maryland again to the National Emergency Training Center (which regular readers will know houses both the Emergency Management Institute and the National Fire Academy – my home away from home).

Here is the $64,000 question:

Well…what do you think?  Exactly how much fun can I have?  Is this a “knowable” quantity?  Or is this a “Oops…should have stopped at the third margarita and the sixth go round on the chandelier” as the flames are licking at your feet – kind of thing?

This is a fairly important question.  We all want to have fun and enjoy life as much as possible in our time here on the planet, but few of us want to trade that off for an eternity in hell.  And frankly, if I was going to go to hell because I was having far too much fun I would want to be a sterling example of a bad example – I would want to overachieve.

So it sure would be nice to know where the line is so that I can decide whether it is worthwhile to cross it – or to do a happy dance on the other side of it.  So if you know the answer to this truly important question, please do let me know…and soon..because if I am going to hell anyway I want to make sure I have as much fun as possible along the way. 😉

Day six hundred and two of the new forty – obla di obla da

  1. Partying like Charlie Sheen? – probably going to hell.
Enough margaritas to make you kick off your shoes, climb up on a table, and do a little song and dance number as your friends hoot and holler? – you’re probably pretty safe – as long as you keep it PG…

  2. Yes, that’s the big question. If hell is inevitable for me, like some people suggest, why do I even try to be good? If there is a magical line not to cross, we will all be dancing right up to it, with our toes dangling over the edge (if we knew exactly where it was). We don’t know where the line is however, so we either cling to the sides afraid to dance at all, or dance with all our hearts, and trust that somehow we will be rescued when our time is up. I feel a life spent clinging to the sides is a life wasted, so I dance away to my own tune. I kind of think you’re a dancer too…

  3. Sorry I find you interesting.. and felt like I had to answer this question. I’m no expert, but if living the complete life (good or bad) isn’t worth the dare, then who’s to say when judgement comes.. anyone will care? ( just made that up lol)
-in short. do it. No one really knows if bad people arn’t forced to live in heaven anyway.. I’d think it’d be more of a punishment.. and if you have no regrets or haven’t really hurt anyone.. I think your naughty side can be forgiven.
