Be sure to attend the competency hearing…

People often ask me how I can find the time, energy and inspiration to blog every single day.  My response is always the same – I do it for me – it fulfills a promise I had previously made to myself and never upheld.  This time, on the occasion of my passage into the new forty, I felt like it was truly now or never.  I am now 563 days in on the new forty blog and I have no intention of stopping.  If I won millions in the lottery I may quit my job, but I would never consider quitting my blog.  Indeed,  not even for full time bliss on the French Riviera and a bevy of unbelievably buff cabana boys solely focused on my gluttonous needs – not even then would I quit doing my blog (albeit, my blog entries might become quite salacious).

I love my blog.  It has become part of my life experience – a part that has helped me become a better version of me. My blog has allowed me to meet so many new people and to share moments of sadness and joy with others that I might otherwise have never had the opportunity to meet.  My life is richer because of it.

Sometimes folks ask me if I plan to compile some of my best blogs in a book – that is always good for a snort.  I think to gather them up in such a way is akin to compiling evidence for my competency hearing…I have no doubt that my son Noah has likely printed off some of my blog entries and is planning to present them to the court with his argument that I need a guardian.  Of course my response to that would be to ask that the guardian be a muscular, young man with rugged good looks, undeniable charm and a unquenchable desire for women in the new forty who blog with passion and commitment.  That would reduce Noah to his standard retort, “That’s it…we are putting you in a home!” No worries…my standard response to that is to request a home with cute male orderlies, nurses and doctors…a hot tub…and chandeliers.  That response usually makes Noah nauseous and he has to leave the room.  So no, I am not planning on a book just yet, but one may get submitted to the court system sooner or later.

The funny thing is, most days, my blog is my sanity.  It is the means by which I remain lucid and grounded…the means by which I reflect upon life…the means by which I recognize my own imperfections and fallibility…my blog is a conduit to my soul and my never-ending evolution.

Maya Angelou once said about writing, “The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart.” My writing isn’t Pulitzer prize winning stuff, but I hope that in every blog my blog readers can hear me and that they know that I sincerely love being here and having them join me whether it’s a day for laughing, crying, reflecting, screaming or just meandering.  And let me say right now – I hope the regular readers of my blog will be sure to attend my competency hearing and stick up for me – if not for my sanity then at least to demand I get that specially ordered guardian. 😉

Day five hundred and sixty-three of the new forty – obla di obla da

  1. and by the way…keep it up it is very entertaining…living out in the country and not making it to town very often…prolly once a month or so…leaves entertainment on the slim side of life…I dont get to the entertainment on a daily basis lately for some reason or another but, I do eventually get to them….4 days worth today…

  2. Just saw a doctor the other day who told me about her daughter who promised she’d dress her mother in sequins and push her wheelchair wherever she wanted to go. Now isn’t that a nice visual image!
