It has been a long week since the fire- even though it hasn’t really been a whole week.  It is hard to believe it has only been four days.  Indeed, it seems like it has been weeks not days.  On the Galleria Fire Facebook page someone posted a link to photos taken inside the building today. The photos are hard to look at.  Less than a week before the fire the boys hosted a family fiesta over at their apartment – we ate and laughed and ate some more.  It was nice and fun and probably only about the fifth time I had been in their apartment since they moved in a handful of months back.

Now the walls are gone – burnt away by a fire that was indiscriminate and relentless…and the things inside, the things that made the home the boys’ own – those too are gone.  As is the love we all shared with their pets.  It has been a long week.

Tonight I visited the boys’ new apartment and it is nice.  I think they will be happy there.  They will move in tomorrow.  Tomorrow is a new day and will begin a new week for all of us – and not a minute too soon.
