I noted the other day that less than thirty days stood between me and the end of my first year in the new forty. I am not sure where the time went…but it has been an eventful year to be sure. As I glance into year two of the new forty I am thinking about new goals that I want to add to my new forty list. I have fulfilled my promise to self to write every day, now I think it is time to add another goal.
I have been pondering my next new forty goal for awhile now and I have settled on one goal that I believe will be equally as challenging and gratifying as my first goal of writing daily. That goal – to get my body in the best shape it has been in ever. Yes…I said ever. Better than the old forties, better than the thirties, better than the twenties – the best shape ever.
Now, I know what you are thinking…you are thinking I am drunk or on some heavy medication. I mean really how can my new forty body be better than my twenty year old body? Well, let me tell you…my younger body never had the benefit of a true understanding of diet and exercise. If it looked good, it did so incidentally…not based on a plan of action that was religiously executed. But here I am – older, wiser and more determined to wring every ounce of life out of my days on this planet…and to do that I want my body in top form.
So that is the challenge for year two of the new forty – to rethink and resculpt my body to arrive at my best body ever. So stay tuned for notes on my progress…right now I work with free weights at home but I am investigating other options to up my game to the level I want it to be at. I want to prove to myself once again that I can set a fair-sized goal and follow through with it. Plus, I want year two of the new forty to be the year that I show definitively that the only limits on one’s goals are the limits one perceives.
So, watch for it – my best body ever – or just sit back and wait for the photos…you didn’t think I was going to let my best body ever go undocumented did you? Heck no – there will be posters, billboards and television spots and in every one of them you will see the most distinct indication of my best body ever success – a satisfied smile. 🙂
Day three hundred and forty-six of the new forty – obla di obla da

I’ll see you next year at the Fargo Marathon! Just think about it: You’ll be close to 52, and although you may be with a man half your age by that time, you can certainly be with a marathon (26 miles) half your age!
