Well, here I am again…ready to set out for my annual trek to FEMA’s Higher Education Conference. As is typical I have had virtually no sleep as I there were at least a 150 things to accomplish before getting on the plane. I probably accomplished about 75 of those 150 things, but I am counting myself lucky on that front. The list is always far longer than the hours in any day.
I can tell you one thing to a moral certainty though – I will be sleeping on my flights, that is a given. Over the years I have become quite adept at catching up on sleep on airline flights. I used to abhor the thought of sleeping on a plane. My risk management frame-of-mind would push me to be awake and alert just in case the unthinkable happened. And then one trip the unthinkable did happen…I stayed up all night, stayed awake as I flew across country and arrived at my destination without any sleep which resulted in bags under my eyes and me looking like a 100 miles of bad road (well, maybe not a 100 miles…maybe more like 20, but you get the point). As some might say in my field it was a "disaster" (okay, I am probably the only one who deemed it as such, but if you had seen me perhaps you’d have my back on this one).
Oh yes, I deal with risk every day and I know how to mitigate potential risk…indeed…wake me when we land. π
Have a fabulous week all!
Day three hundred and thirty-six of the new forty – obla di obla da
