I can hear it now…”OMG Ethel! What have you done??!!”

Tam & I in Florida in 2003

Today is my friend Tam’s birthday.  I cannot tell you which year this is for her lest she kill me, but suffice to say she is close to a couple of decades younger than me.  In the great pairings of mischief making women in the world – Tam and I are undoubtedly included.  At some point over the years, we took on the monikers of Lucy (Tam) and Ethel (me) between ourselves as an homage to the ridiculousness of some of the situations that we have gotten ourselves into.

Lucy lives in the Virginia Beach area now, but back in the day she was here with us in the F/M area livin’ large.  Back in those days when we weren’t taking turns getting into our own trouble and bailing the other out, we were getting into trouble together.  I really miss her some days, but I only have to reflect upon some of our hijinks to realize that she remains with me in spirit wherever I go and whatever I do.  Whenever things go south I can still hear her saying in my mind, “OMG Ethel!  What have you done??!!”

Lucy is like my sister – albeit, younger, taller and with a different family.  I don’t get to see her or talk to her as much as I used  to once upon a time, but the bond – it never changes.  She will always be the Lucy to my Ethel and I will always love her the same – be it from near or far.  I think the original Lucy & Ethel said it best in their rendition of Friendshiphttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbo4OYSLTdI .  I should note that I think the originals sing a bit better than their second generation fill-ins (we possess many talents – but singers we ain’t…and let’s not get started on our dancing abilities). 😉

Happy Birthday Lucy – you are missed here in the F/M area, but the love – it goes on and on.  xo

Day three hundred and eighteen of the new forty – obla di obla da

  2. Shouldn’t you be “Lucy” since you are the hilarious, shorter lady with red hair, and Tam is the taller blonde? Either way, it sounds like your friendship is special: Thanks for sharing it with us!

  3. Tam ~ you are always with me…you are who I attribute all my mischief to! 🙂

GFBison ~ I guess all that matters ultimately is the friendship…and better Lucy & Ethel than Bert & Ernie, Abbott & Costello, or Ms. Piggy & Kermit.

Someday though – when I have time – I’ll write about which Sex in the City characters we most resemble – uff dah! 🙂
