Today Oprah featured National No Phone Zone Day on her show. It appears that across this country more and more folks are realizing what a dangerous behavior texting and talking on the phone is while driving. If you still believe talking or texting on a cell phone while driving are innocuous behaviors I challenge you to learn more at http://www.oprah.com/oprahshow/The-Brain-and-Distracted-Driving.
Last night I was talking to a colleague who rides his bike on some of the more rural roads and who has had a number of close calls with drivers too preoccupied with their cell phones. I daily see dangerous situations where drivers are paying more attention to their cell phones than the road. It is shocking how many close calls I have seen in the past month or so.
Now, I am not an important person, so perhaps my example is not wholly representative of all folks, but I have never received a telephone or text message that was more valuable than someone’s life. For me, that is what it comes down to – I am not willling to take other folks’ lives in my hands for a cell phone conversation…and frankly, I would appreciate it if you didn’t take my life into your hands either. It’s simple risk management and truly, the life you save may very well be you own.
Be safe out there.

I would be fully supportive of no phone zone, except i can’t stand Oprah’s arrogance or liberalism. Just for that, i’m going to use my phone in the car all day!! 😉

As for waiting till we got home….that and I think we may have planned things out a little more. If we were going to meet friends we probably touched base and made sure everyone was on the same page…:P
