A brainiac – I ain’t!

One of my old beaus called me the other day.  The news that I am back to being single has apparently now spread across the United States (ah, the magic of Facebook).   He told me that in the future I should date guys who are brainiacs like me.  Huh?  Me a brainiac – puhleese!

I may have more letters after my name these days, but the correlation between those letters and the extent to which I consistently use my brain is nebulous at best.  I remain a total goofball.

I find it fascinating the things folks attribute to you based on your outward achievements.  Under it all, I am still the same girl I was decades ago (uggh – did I just select the word decades over years?).  Sure I am armed with more knowledge and education, but the essence of me remains the same.  My vocabulary may have improved a tish from the days of my youth, but I still am the girl who regularly says, "OMG! WTF? "

Brainiacs don’t get lost when they turn around too fast.  I personally am so geographically challenged that I still regularly get lost in the Fargo area after having been here 13 years (seriously…ask Sara Lepp – she will testify).

Brainiacs don’t have a five second attention span.  In the time it takes me to type this sentence I will have moved on to another unrelated thought…now what was I talking about?

Brainiacs don’t dance around their homes with abandon to Lady Gaga songs.  Brainiacs are more cultured and controlled.

And finally, brainiacs don’t watch Dancing With The Stars or The Biggest Loser or Desperate Houswives.  Brainiacs watch The History Channel or CSPAN.

I am not a brainiac (not that there is anything wrong with that- as Jerry Seinfeld and friends would say). πŸ˜‰

I am just a girl who happens to be smart enough and persistent enough to have acquired some letters behind her name.  If I have to be labeled for better future dating success please pick another label, such as fun, crazy, genuine or maybe even irrepressible…because a brainiac – I ain’t.

Day two hundred and eighty-eight of the new forty – obla di obla da

  1. They say that youth is wasted on the young. I’m not sure I have run across anybody that wasn’t “smarter” now than when they were 21. But unless we can travel back in time all of us are stuck with living with our actions. Yes I would like to rewrite parts of my life but I know that will not happen. So I try my best to keep pushing ahead and making the best of what my life has to offer. πŸ™‚

  2. You are definitely a braniac–remember, intelligence comes in many forms, and you possess not only the letters behind your name, but wit & charm, and you are extremely skillful at turning lemons into lemonade.
