Day five in Emmitsburg and I can feel my normal life obligations creeping back into my thoughts. Lists are already beginning to form in my mind. The days of wabi sabi are winding down. I think it is probably as it should be though. Too much of a good thing is bound to detract from the “goodness” of it I surmise.
But it sure has been good. I have laughed and laughed and laughed. Today one of my colleagues added to my merriment went she actually exited the restroom with toilet paper tucked into her pants. She passed a few people before someone was gracious enough to clue her in (I wasn’t with her for this event – I am just relating the event from my friend’s narrative). God bless William, a true gentleman from DC who gave her a head’s up (or conversely a bottom’s up). Of course, she related this story to me during the firefighters’ graduation ceremony which caused me to let out a loud laugh at the most inopportune time…but, hey – it was worth it.
Thank goodness for wabi sabi weeks here and there in life. They have a way of smoothing out the chaos of the other weeks. I think, having just enjoyed a wabi sabi week, that it is good that I will be back to the business of real life. As one of my gal pals pointed out, I have been enjoying a wabi sabi week while so many of my comrades are dealing with the realities of the flood. The guilt is settling in a bit (half Catholic/half Jewish equals twice the guilt)…but I’ll try and redeem my sorry self when I get home. For tonight – the last wabi sabi night for a long while – I will live in the moment and the soft candlelight…the harsh light of day will be here soon enough (8 AM tomorrow to be exact).
I hope everyone finds some wabi sabi time this weekend. 🙂
