Thank you blog readers – come join me for fun!

On Saturday eve I will be attending a Lions fundraiser (see all the details below).  I cannot go to the first segment of the fundraiser as I will not return early enough from a conference I am speaking at, but I will be there for the second segment at the historic Ford Building (the dessert, decadence and dancing part – oh, yeah…not missing that part).  The second segment runs from 6:30-10 PM and only costs $10.  Don’t worry if you don’t have tickets already, you can get tickets at the door.  It is a steal of a deal and it benefits worthy causes to include Haiti relief and needs here in our own area.

I personally invite all of the folks who have been so graciously reading and supporting my blog to come out and have some fun.  Which reminds me – thank you blog readers – yesterday my cumulative blog reads topped 100,000.  That may be small potatoes to some folks, but it is a big deal to me.  Thank you all for coming along for the ride in the new forty.

So come out and play on Saturday evening at the Ford Building – I’d love to have you there!  And really, why just read about all the fun the following day when you can be part of it?  Live large my friends.

Day two hundred and eleven of the new forty – obla di obla da

Fargo Lions to Host Fundraiser
To Benefit Haiti, Community Needs
Fargo Lions Club will hold its annual "For Your Eyes Only" fundraiser to benefit Haiti and other humanitarian causes Saturday, Feb. 6.

The first segment of the event begins at the Silver Moon Supper Club, 309 Roberts St., downtown Fargo, beginning at 4 p.m. Reservation tickets are required. They are on sale at North Home Furniture and Design, 505 N. Broadway, downtown Fargo, from any Fargo Lion or by calling Fargo Lion President Paula Klein, 271.1550. Tickets are $75, including a $35 donation.

The elite dining experience will include hors d’oeuvres, dinner and entertainment by Great Plains Harmony. Included with the dining package is VIP limousine transportation from 300 Broadway to the historic Ford Building, sponsored by the Kilbourne Group. The elite dining ticket also gives entry to the Ford Building for dessert, decadence and dancing.

From 6:30-10 p.m., the Fargo Lions host the Deb Jenkins Band, and present live auction packages including a donation of a Lasik procedure by Dr. Lance Bergstrom, designer cakes from Sandy’s Donuts in West Fargo, small indulgences including wine, flowers and desserts, and silent auction packages. Babler Auction Service will do the live auction. The VIP Room will provide desserts and beverages. A separate ticket is available for this part of the event, also at Northern Home Furniture or from any Fargo Lion. The ticket is $10, including a $5 donation.

All proceeds from the event support humanitarian needs. Relief in Haiti is one of the priorities. Donations through Lions are tax deductible. This year the Internal Revenue Service will allow donations to Haiti to be included in 2009 taxes.

Anyone wishing to donate to the Haiti relief effort through Lions Clubs is encouraged to contact a member of your local Lions Club or the LCIF representative for eastern North Dakota, Robert Littlefield at R.Littlefield@ndsu.edu or 701.231.7783. Funds should be designated for the "LCIF Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund." Lions Clubs International Foundation, the charitable arm of LCI, is in contact with Lions leadership in Haiti and the Dominican Republic to assess the situation and determine immediate needs and how Lions and LCIF can best assist.

Established in 1968, LCIF recently was ranked by a Financial Times study as the #1 non-governmental organization with which to partner. In eastern North Dakota, LCIF provided relief funds to support relief efforts following the tornado in Northwood, and the 1997, 2003 and 2009 floods in the Red River Valley.

LCIF gives every cent of every dollar collected to support humanitarian projects. No administrative costs are taken from dollars raised to support LCIF, allowing for 100 percent of every donation to have a direct impact on the lives of people in need.

There are more than 1.3 million men and women in Lions Clubs in 205 countries and geographic territories around the world.
