Holding on to the moments collected through the days…

Jessica and Dustin are pregnant.  Actually, Jessica is the one who is physically pregnant, but when a partner is pregnant so too are you.  It is a lovely thing for them – their first time.  There is something so promising and hopeful about pregnancy.   I am happy for them and excited about the changes they will enjoy in their life with a baby and as "parents".

Those babies, they change your life.  They change your hopes, dreams, priorities and fears.  There is no going back to the days of "It’s all about me."  Suddenly and rightfully the world becomes more about them.  And there is no end to that.  They grow and the things you hope for and worry about may change, but your role does not change.  Once a parent – always a parent.  I always have to smile a bit at those parents who start out thinking it is an 18 year job.  I have been in that 18 year job for almost 29 years now.  29 years of different joys, milestones and challenges…29 years of being a mom.

The time flies, but it is never dull.  Before Jessica and Dustin know it they will be measuring their lives as parents in years and decades, but holding on to the moments collected through the days.  It is the stuff that life is made of and it is good.

Congrats again Jessica and Dustin on this new stage of your life.

Day two hundred and eight of the new forty – obla di obla da

  1. Congrats to Jessica and Dustin. It’s a wonderful adventure that’s for sure.

Now. Are you feeling better? Did you go to the doctor? What did he/she say about you being sick all this time? Take Care

  2. I always tell young couples to get a dog first..it is somehow easier than a baby..and it doesn’t have to go to school ..unless of course Obedience School counts. Hope you are feeling better:)
