Did you hear it this morning at 5:52 AM? Did you hear me give Bob Boyum a very sincere and emphatic standing ovation? No West Fargo Police Officer showed up at my door about the noise, but I am sure that I was likely pushing the limit – especially when I yelled out at the top of my lungs, "Right On, Bob!" One would think my husband might have gotten out of bed and questioned why I was applauding and cheering on some unkown man named Bob…one would think…but not a peep out of him.
Have you heard about Bob? I didn’t know of him until 5:48 when I read the Portrait piece about him on In-Forum (see http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/264684/) but it only took a couple of minutes for me to become quite a fan of Bob. You see Bob is a volunteer dog walker for the Humane Society and not your average run of the mill volunteer dog walker – oh no – Bob is the gold medal winner of volunteer dog walkers. Bob even did volunteer dog walking on Thanksgiving and Christmas – WHAT A GUY!
It seems Bob just moved here from Colorado a few months ago and decided to spend some of his spare time volunteering at the shelter. There was a great photo of Bob with an adorable pup in the paper – he looks like the Robert Redford of volunteer dog walkers. Something tells me the Humane Society may start getting more volunteers after folks have seen Bob’s photo. He makes volunteer dog walking in a frigid North Dakota winter look sexy and who doesn’t want to be a sexy volunteer dog walker?
As I have said many times on this blog, I love all creatures large and small (albeit, some I prefer to love from quite a distance). I believe compassion should be shown to all living things, not just human beings. So, I like folks like Bob who evidence that compassion to animals.
The article about Bob was very short, but I learned enough in that brief article to know he deserved a standing "O". They say all dogs go to heaven, I suspect so do all volunteer dog walkers.
Day one hundred and eighty-three of the new forty – obla di obla da

Yep. Bob is quite the guy isn’t he? I think I’ve seen him once in a while up here by the Humane Society. Maybe I will start looking a little more closely. LOL!

Some people are people persons, some are animal persons. Either way, the ability to show compassion to those who need it is an admirable trait. It’s nice Bob is now being noticed, too. š
