Age is relative. This I know. And yet, no matter how many times this is reiterated in my life, there are some days that it sneaks up on me and gives me a good giggle. Such was the case the other day in a conversation with one of my female students who is all of 19 years old. This student was meeting with me as part of my “end-of-the-semester meet with every student” ritual. During the meeting she shared with me some of things she learned in her group project. I will share her comments below, but the names are omitted to protect the innocent (and the innocence).
K: I was really surprised how much I enjoyed working with O. I didn’t think he would be too big of a contributor, but he was and I made me happy. And you know, he has really nice skin.
Me: Okay…I guess I never noticed.
K: He really does – you should look at it. I was surprised he was as old as he is with that skin.
Me: How old is he?
K: Oh, he’s 23.
I laughed out loud. Of course, she had no idea what was so funny. Age is relative my friends. 😉
