My Lyn top…

I was out on an outlet mall visit the other evening with part of the group here in Emmitsburg for the FEMA working group, and I had a realization – I do not have an accurate take on how others see me.  I have been clued in over the years to the fact that people view me sometimes as having an intimidating personna.  I still do not see this in myself, but I understand others do.

What I did not imagine was how colorfully others viewed me to be.  Case in point, a top my emergency management colleague Lyn found for me on the $4.99 clearance rack.  She said it looked like something I would like.

This top is not only very colorful, it is also bedazzled (click the photo to make it larger and to better take in its detail).  It has a bit of an Italy flavor to its design.  And as I said above, it was on clearance for $4.99.

I was not immediately taken by the top, but at $4.99 I figured I would buy it and designate it my Lyn top.  I was not so sure that I could pull off that much color.  I love color, but I have not owned a top with so many vibrant colors on it.

The point is, Lyn saw this top and thought it was something I would like.  That was the point that fascinated me.  She saw color and bedazzling and she thought about me.  I know Lyn was genuine in her suggestion, but the fact that she sees me this way makes me wonder- is this a good thing?   I know the Lyn top is trying to tell me something as it lies there on my bed – indeed, it is figuratively screaming at me.

What that something is I am left to ponder.   For the short term I am going to assume that Lyn sees me as being a bright, colorful, and sparkly individual.  Who knows why she thinks it suits me.  All that can be concluded to a moral certainty is that you will see me coming from quite a distance in this top…perhaps that was the point. 😉

  1. You never mentioned what the fabric is, Ms. C. Cotton, nylon, polyester? The fabric says as much as the design. Any texture? It looks like upholstery fabric to me. I can see it on a big throw pillow or a dog bed for a big yellow Lab or a Chesapeake. Colors are too deep and serious to be “vibrant”. I’m not bedazzled either. The fabric seems an attempt to reproduce a 19th Century naïve still life by Charlotte Flaumbert. The wide, washed-blue border, with the design peeping through, looks like an attempt to cover an accident.

This top is so NOT you, so NOT what I would pick for Molly Jones, anyway, that I am tempted to believe you made the whole thing up as pretext for your blog. What I’d most like to know is what Cheyenne says when she sees it. LOL.

Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
    That grow so incredibly high

Lucy in the sky with … that shirt.

I don’t know if you’re intimidating, but you exude confidence. But that’s easy to do in print. Lookit me. Tell me what Cheyenne says.
