In a couple of weeks I will be watching my grandson Lennon for four days. I am excited and a bit apprehensive about this little adventure. Watching a toddler is a full-time engagement. Lennon is almost 20 months old, extraordinarily clever, and has the moves of a top-notch running back.
While I have four children that I have successfully navigated through this period, I have not been the number one full-time care provider for a toddler for four days for about a decade. Things have changed a bit since then. I am slower now.
Lennon will be in daycare during the days while I am at work, so I won’t be running around behind him all day. You would think I could handle a couple of hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening without too much wear and tear, but I am not taking my fitness for duty for granted. I am in training mode now – making sure I take all my vitamins, eat right, get enough sleep, and maintain a healthy energy level. I have Eye of the Tiger on a continuous loop and I am working on improving the speed of my moves. I want to make sure I am at the top of my game and ready to take on the challenge.
Because there is one thing I know for sure, if a toddler even senses for a moment that they have the edge on you – you are toast. I may be slower than I was back in the day, but I still remember the rules of engagement with those crafty and deceptively adorable little masterminds who live to expand their boundaries – a.k.a. toddlers. This is not my first rodeo, even if my spurs are starting to rust. This grandma will be ready. 😉
Day one thousand three hundred and five of the new forty – obla di obla da

Good training regimen, Ms. C. As a track and field vet, I recommend tapering the training as you approach race day, as rest becomes more important to ensure optimal race performance. I also suggest listening to some jazz and blues, as dealing with a toddler will require extensive improvisation. And a double dose of humor. Here’s a bit of all:
EN bocca al lupo, meine freundin. Hope we get some photos.
