I made a quick stop at the Dollar Tree after work this evening to pick up a few items. There were an awful lot of folks at the Dollar Tree. Apparently, it was the happening place to be. I tried to get in and out quickly, but the aisle congestion made it somewhat challenging to move about the store. I was there a bit longer than I would have liked.
While I was waiting in line to checkout I observed the cashier chatting with the customers in front of me. She was such a lovely, happy soul – I enjoyed watching her interact and laugh with folks. It was clear that she was a positivity broker. When I finally reached the front of the line and was face to face with this cashier I asked her name. Her name is Valencia. I told Valencia that she has a fabulous personality. We chatted about Thanksgiving and all the food we would eat with the excuse that it only comes once a year. We laughed about our rationalization and compared holiday notes. I had a smile on my face the entire conversation.
I left the store happy…not that I wasn’t happy when I went in, but when I left I was happy because I had the opportunity to interact with Valencia. There are folks like that in the world – folks who brighten the world with their attitude and good cheer. I really enjoy those folks when I run across them in my day-to-day activities.
Thanks Dollar Tree for Valencia. I went in looking for a handful of simple items, but I walked out with a big smile and a happy heart. That sure was a whole lotta’ bang for my buck. 😉
Day one thousand two hundred and forty-three of the new forty – obla di obla da

Encounters with folks like Valencia are, to use an old cliché, like ripples in a pond. Or…very much like a Pay It Forward. The New Forty is one of those unexpected ‘pebbles’ for more people than you would ever guess. 🙂
