Today, I had the privilege of presenting on crisis management to a great group of women at the American Council on Education’s Regional Women’s Leadership Forum here in Fargo.  I am always delighted to have the opportunity to speak on the topic of crisis management.  It is akin to the opportunity to preach the gospel – well, my gospel at least.   To be able to speak to the topic with an eye on advancing these women’s framework for leading their institutions through crisis events – well, that just made the whole experience that much more special for me.  You know how I love my fierce girls. 😉

The conference is being held at the Radisson.  I parked in the parking structure adjacent to the Radisson.  On my way back out to the parking structure I stopped at the ladies room on the parking level walkway level (I think it is the third floor of the Radisson).  It was then that I came upon the mirror ball restroom.

I have been in this restroom before and it didn’t look like this.  It must have been remodeled since my last visit.  I must confess, the mirror ball restroom fascinates me.  I wasn’t sure upon encountering it whether I loved it or hated it.  All that mirror – even on three of the four bathroom stall walls – mirror everywhere – in tiny little mosaic squares.

It was so glam that it was in a way startling.  It was not what I expected to see in the middle of our tried and true Radisson in Fargo, North Dakota.  It is like stumbling upon an unexpected piece of art or beautiful item in a sea of humdrum – it is a shock to the system.

I am still thinking about that restroom all these hours later.  I think I need to go back and visit it again – for no other reason than to marvel at it.  I think I will just pop over there the next time I am downtown.  I will make sure to download The BeeGees’ hit Stayin’ Alive before I go.  I think with that song I could have a hell of a time in the mirror ball restroom! 😉
