Today I traveled to Brandon in Manitoba, Canada to meet with a colleague from Brandon University. To get to Brandon I traveled back up to Dunsieth, North Dakota and drove about an hour beyond the border into Canada.
It is amazing the things you can learn in an hour. In fact, I learned a number of valuable things on the road to Brandon. I would like to share my new knowledge with you.
1. The road to Brandon has a number of areas where the road has been washed out.
2. There is no pretty orange decor around most of the washed out areas of road.
3. My car when traveling at 65 miles per hour (100+ km) can actually catch air (a.k.a. fly) when it moves from solid pavement to disinegrated road.
4. The landings from the aforementioned flights could not be termed “smooth landings”.
5. Drinking a 16 ounce coffee cup of coffee before getting on the road to Brandon is not prudent.
6. There are no rest stops on the road to Brandon.
I have decided to take an alternate road out of Brandon tomorrow and to hold off on the coffee until after the drive. What can I say, I am a quick learner.

I grew up in Dunseith and the Turtle Mountains. I have enjoyed your last three posts and you’re right, the drive into the Turtle Mountains is nice, somewhat calming.
I highly recommend a stop at “Reid’s Place” on main in Dunseith if you happen to get back through there and eat a Jumbo. And more so, I challenge you to finish it all, no easy task.
Enjoy your stay in the Turtle Mountains and if you see my mom, say hi. 🙂
