Serendipity

“Serendipity. Look for something, find something else, and realize that what you’ve found is more suited to your needs than what you thought you were looking for.” ~Lawrence Block

I like the notion of serendipity.  I like it because it represents to me the universe seemingly acting to advance your best interests whether you recognize them or not.  I like it that the universe has my back.

I had a serendipitious moment the other day when I ran across a kindred spirit…a nice Jersey boy who is close to my age, holds many of the same values I have and who I get along with fabulously.  Not that I was looking for that.  Not that I was really looking at all.  Yet, through a series of happy alignments in the universe I had the opportunity to make the acquiantance of someone who I do believe will be a lifetime friend.   I think I owe the universe a thank you gift for that one…or at least one of those musical Hallmark cards.

Sometimes it is the things you discover while you are out looking for other things that are the most powerful.   This experience serves as a reminder that life is lived in the moments that comprise it, not in the plans of what I think it should or will look like.  It is about being open to the notion that we may not always know exactly what we need, but that when it crosses our path we will intuitively know that things are as they should be.

So, a Jersey boy crossed my path and even though I wasn’t really looking for him, it is as it should be – it is serendipity.  Life is in the moments my friends, be open to them. 😉

  1. Ah yes. Like that old saying: Life happens while we’re making other plans. And often it happens with beauty, mystery and fun we never could have dreamed or planned for.
