Seeking balance…

I know it has been said that two wrongs don’t make a right, but do two rights give you a pass to do a wrong thing?  Wait now…I am thinking that is called penance (hmmm…that is when the right things come after the wrong thing…never mind).

I was thinking about this today as I hit potholes and maladjusted ice tracks around town.  Prior to today, I was fairly sure I would need an alignment to address the damage a few dozen close encounters with uneven road had caused to my right front tire.  Today, it seemed like I repeatedly had issues with my left front tire.  That is when it came to me – perhaps if the close encounters were balanced out between the tires I wouldn’t need the alignment after all.  That is what the world is all about right – balance?

Give and take, tit for tat, maintaining equilibrium…oh yeah, I am pretty sure that balance is a core tenet in our sense of what is right and sensible.  So I ask again, if you do two rights do you have a pass to do a wrong thing?  Does this work into the universe’s notion of balance? Does this work into humanity’s sense of balance?

I think it may on the black and white assessment of the written word, but not in the more amorphous area where bad actions can have far-reaching consequences that greatly overwhelm a hundred right actions.  Darn it anyway – back to behavin’…but, I am still going to try to self-align my car. 😉

  1. Be careful with those potholes! The year before last we hit enough potholes to crack our control arm on one side. It started making the wheel squeek all the time so we had it checked out luckily or it could have been very bad. I think that as good as you have been, you have earned up a free bonus bad. 🙂
