And the beat goes on…

Today my third oldest child (or conversely my second youngest child) – Cory – turned 23.  Holy moly…where did the time go?  This year my oldest child will turn…GULP…30!!!  I never thought I would be more horrified about someone else’s age than my own – but goodness gracious – having a child who is almost 30 does start to dramatically impact my dating range.  Suddenly I have to pay an awful lot of attention to whether dates are at least older than my children… and believe me,  it takes all the fun out of dating younger men when you have to say, “Sorry…I have children older than you.”  When exactly was it that I turned into this older woman with fully grown adult children?

Ah, but as Cher sang…the beat goes on…days pass, weeks pass, years pass and even decades pass and you look back and wonder how you ever believed that time passed slowly.  And the babies, well they grow up and you change and they change and before you know it they are all grown up with their own lives.

We went to Casa Ramos for Cory’s birthday.  The whole gang was there and we had a lot of fun.  Here is Cory with his sister – the soon-to-be 30 year old.  My advice to all parents is to hold those babies’ little hands while you can because they grow up so quickly and while you may long to go back some days to those little hands and the simple joys of childhood – you cannot.  Alas, life is good.  My kids are well.  I have no room to complain – well, except for the impact their ages are having on my dating range…but I still have age 31 and up…and the beat goes on. 😉

  1. You will get to hold the little hands again when you become a “Grandma.” I imagine that have to be awesome! I would also have to think that adding the title “Grandma” to your ever growing list of names would work its own magic in keeping the under 30 group of men at bay.

  2. To Jim,
Sorry bud, doesn’t bother me any.
I know what I want. Surely 3 years can be overlooked.
    I am wise beyond 😉
