Busier than a high-fiving, one-armed paperhanger!

As my friend Martha from law school used to say, “I am busier than a high-fiving, one-armed paperhanger!” Well, actually Martha used to attribute other activities to the paper hanger’s free hand, but I cleaned it up for general consumption.  Regardless, you get the point – I am REALLY busy. This busy thing is not a new phenomenon – I am always involved in oodles of projects – have been for many years now.   This year though – this time in particular – I have exceeded even my normal busy-meter and the stress cracks are starting to show (hopefully not on my face – but I fear the worst).

As is the case with the state of being busy, folks often point to a date certain in the future when their busy state will dissipate to some extent.  My date certain is October 11th…Columbus Day.  It seems appropriate – the 11th demarcates a traveler who made new discoveries (and no, there is no time to get into the “who discovered what” discussion here – let’s just go with the free holiday that doesn’t require a Hallmark greeting card and move on).  On October 11th I will be such a traveler – discovering what it is like to take it down from a level 15 on a 1-10 scale to a level 7.

I suffer no illusions that I will remain at 7, but for at least a day I will sit at a 7 before I make the all too predictable climb back up the stressed for success ladder (and yes that is me clumsily navigating the ladder in my high heels laden with books and bags and trying to talk on my cell phone – and those rungs…some days they are fairly precarious).  One thing is for sure though, I will never be revisiting 15 – it is too much for one person – even a person with mad skills and a very limited sense of limitations.  I am, after all, but one woman and contrary to the musings of some – I have no super powers.  Presently, I just seek to live through these next few weeks…if I don’t, well then I am fairly sure I’ll have some time on my hands. 😉

Day four hundred and forty-two of the new forty – obla di obla da
