Find your crazy good…

There is an old Yiddish saying that asserts, “All of us are crazy good in one way or another.” Isn’t that the truth though?  The trick is in finding what it is you are crazy good at.  Some folks seem to lean into it when they are young and know most of their lives what they are crazy good at; others don’t find out until they are older; and there are some that never realize what they are crazy good at.   Sometimes it takes someone outside the person to point out what the person is crazy good at.  Sometimes a person is crazy good at a multitude of things.  Sometimes what a person is crazy good at doesn’t match what a person wants to be crazy good at.  But as the saying goes, we are all crazy good in one way or another.

I am late bloomer generally, and specifically as it applies to appreciating one’s crazy good.  I do believe I came upon my crazy good by process of elimination – in essence by discovering my crazy not good.  The list of things I am not good at has always gotten a lot more attention in my mind than what I have been good at.  Don’t you hate how that works?  We focus more on our inadequacies and weaknesses than our strengths.  Yet we know that all human beings have weaknesses and strengths as no one is perfect… and we are often happy to focus on others’ strengths rather than their weaknesses…but not when it is ourselves – then we tend to focus on our weaknesses.

I don’t like that phenomenon but I am guilty of it.  Yet, more and more as I age I find I am able to focus more intently on my crazy good and focus less on my inadequacies…more and more I realize that I do myself a disservice when I don’t give myself credit for my strengths.

So today, tomorrow and here forward focus on your crazy good and applaud yourself for what you have as opposed to what you don’t.  Play to your strengths.  😉
