From a “C” to an “EE”

A few years ago I purchased a high-tech scale that not only weighs you but also measures body fat.  It came with a little handbook that explained all the programming ins and outs.  I quickly discovered that there was no password protection for any of the numbers put into the scale to measure body fat and decided simple weighing was quite enough for me.  After all, I do not live in a cabin in the woods alone – other folks see and use my scale – some numbers need to remain private.

After you step off my scale the weight lingers there momentarily (bad weights seem to linger longer than good ones) and then it zeroes out and goes blank.  On occasion a "C" will show up after it zeroes out.  I long ago threw out the book so who knows what that means.  I used to think it had something to do with replacing the battery, but I am not so sure about that.  Usually I know it is time to change the battery when the scale starts regularly changing its mind about my weight.  If it is posting lower weights than usual I usually wait awhile longer to change the battery.

The other day something most startingly happened with my scale – aside from the horrific weight it showed me-  after it zeroed out "EE" showed up.  I went from a "C" to an "EE" (which may sound like quite an amazing bra story, but it isn’t).  I have no idea where the "EE" came from.  I have never seen it before…but then I started thinking.  Do you suppose my scale is working its courage up to say something to me?  My weight was particularly unsettling that day. Do you think the "EE" was a sign of things to come?  I wonder.

I am little afraid.  After a few days of pondering the mysterious "EE" I think I may understand what it all means…a pound or two more and the scale will (I believe) increase its vocabulary by adding a "K".  Yes, I think that it is working toward exclaiming "EEK" in horror based on my weight.  Oh my.  A scale with an opinion.  I am so stressed about the notion of it that I think I need some ice cream to calm my nerves.

Day two hundred and twenty-seven of the new forty – obla di obla da

  1. Maybe the scale is smarter than you think. Besides the “C” probably meaning “Calibrating,” it could also mean it has now identified you as “Carol.” The “EE” is a little more difficult to interpret: Just be thankful it isn’t displaying “OUCH!”
